1-methylcyclopropene [767]

Content Handbook N

Outline of method

1-Methylcyclopropene (1-MCP), a gas at room temperature, is released from the formulation by sealing a sample in an airtight container and then introducing water to dissolve the sample. The 1-MCP/air mixture is drawn from the headspace of the container with a gas tight syringe for analysis. 1-MCP is determined by capillary GC using flame ionisation detection. (Z)-But-2-ene is used as a surrogate calibration standard for 1-MCP.

Scope

The method is usable for VP-formulations.
