MT 12 FLASH POINT
OUTLINE OF METHOD
The sample is placed in the cup of the apparatus and
heated at a slow, uniform rate. A small test flame is directed into
the cup at regular intervals, and the flash point taken as the lowest
temperature at which the application of the flame causes the vapour
above the sample to ignite with a distinct flash inside the cup.
SCOPE:
The method determines the closed cup flash points of petroleum products
and mixtures, to ascertain whether they give off flammable vapours
below 23 °C (73 °F).
